Season’s Greetings from Everyone at EuroCHRIE

As the first semester of the 2023/24 academic year reaches its end, on behalf of the Board of Directors at EuroCHRIE I would like to wish you all the very best for the winter break.

Many of you will be celebrating Christmas and spending time with family and friends. Those who do not celebrate Christmas will be looking forward to enjoying time with loved ones away from work. I wish you a wonderful, restful break.

Our year together as a EuroCHRIE family has been a successful one. The highlight was undoubtedly our annual conference in Vienna, hosted at FHWien der WKW and led by Florian Aubke and his amazing team, was a conference to remember.

I will look back fondly at the spirit of hospitality and collegiality amongst delegates. The presentations and posters were amongst the strongest I have seen at a EuroCHRIE conference. And, of course, who can forget the ferris wheel at the Prater, the Wiener Würstelstand and the spectacular Town Hall Gala venue.

As we cast our eyes forwards to 2024, there’s more to look forward to and more opportunities to share good practice and build networks.

On Wednesday 24 January 2024 (5pm CET), Dr Mats Carlbäck is hosting our Spring Education Webinar. The webinar theme is ‘Interactive Sustainability: The Net Positive Hospitality Simulation’. This webinar will be led by Professor Willy Legrand.

On Thursday 13 June 2024 (16:00-17:30 CET), Dr Tracy Xu is hosting our Summer Research Webinar. The webinar theme is ‘How to position your research expertise to advance your academic career’ geared to PhD students and early career researchers. This webinar will be led by Dr Ksenia Kirillova, Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Tourism Research Empirical Insights, and Dr Marissa Orlowski, Senior Associate Editor of International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.

In autumn, our annual conference will take place at Al Rayyan International University College (ARIU) in Doha, Qatar. The call for papers is now open. Do check out the details on our website.

With all of this to look forward to in 2024, there’s lots of great reasons to be a member of EuroCHRIE and enjoy being part of our global EuroCHRIE family.

Best wishes for a great winter break, and I look forward to seeing you again in the new year.
