“The simulation competition in the EuroCHRIE Challenge is well underway and the teams are preparing their Q2 decisions for their hotels.  Great to see the various strategies being put into action!”

We are pleased to welcome back teams from schools who have participated previously:

  • The University College of Northern Denmark – last year’s winner
  • Strathmore University (Kenya)
  • Stenden University (South Africa)
  • Hotel Management School NHL Stenden (The Netherlands)
  • Budapest Business School (Hungary)
  • Modul University (Austria)
  • Cph Business (Denmark)
  • …as well as many new schools: Swiss Hotel Management School (Switzerland), Final University (North Cyprus), Institut Paul Bocuse (France), Vocational College of Hospitality and Tourism Maribor (Slovenia), University of West London (United Kingdom), Boma International Hospitality College (Kenya), Özyeğin University School of Applied Sciences (Turkey), Hotel Management School Maastricht (The Netherlands), and ESSEC Paris (France).

The teams, comprised of three or four students and one instructor, will compete in a Simulation Challenge in two separate competitive sets (with one hotel operated by each school). Each week they will make strategic decisions to improve the position of their hotels in their competitive set, with a focus on Market Performance, Financials, Guest Satisfaction, and Associate Engagement. The top hotels from each competitive set will be compared side-by-side and the winning team will be the hotel with the best overall balanced scorecard at the end of the four-week competition.

The 7th Annual EuroCHRIE University Challenge has seen a record numbers of participants

This week the students all completed the first module in the Hospitality Business Acumen certificate program which focused on using financial statements to determine the best course of action. They also inputted their first set of simulation decisions and we will anxiously await the results on Friday morning! I expect a great competition!

As they compete, the students will also be achieving their Certificate in Hospitality Business Acumen via on-line learning modules and a knowledge exam, supplemented by weekly web conferences.

It will undoubtedly be an amazing competition and, following two detailed orientation sessions over the past two weeks, the teams are excited to get started! Best of luck to all!!
