A Message from the 2024/25 EuroCHRIE President, Florian Aubke

As the summer is approaching its peak in Europe and many of you are enjoying a well-deserved break, I’d like to send you a short update on what is happening in your EuroCHRIE Federation.

Last week, many of us attended the ICHRIE conference in Montreal, Canada. This year, ICHRIE partnered with a local educational institution (ITHQ) to provide both, attendees and students, with an authentic educational conference experience.

At EuroCHRIE, we know that these partnerships are essential ingredients for successful conferences.

In less than 100 days, we welcome you to our annual EuroCHRIE conference on Doha, Qatar – hosted by Al Rayyan International University College. I know that our hosts will do their utmost to create memorable conference experiences for you.

As board members, we had the opportunity to experience the Qatari hospitality first-hand in spring. Trust me when I say: Doha is definitely worth a visit and the 2024 conference will be yet another successful gathering for all members of CHRIE.

The ICHRIE conference marks the time for handover of board positions. As I step into the role of president for EuroCHRIE for the forthcoming year, join me in thanking Steven Rhoden for his leadership in the past year. As Immediate Past President, he remains a valuable source not just for me, but the entire board of directors. At the same time, I welcome Yasemin Oruc to her new role as Vice President.

We have a few new board members that I warmly welcome to their roles: Cindy Heo (Director of Research), Kateryna Fedosova (Director of Marketing), and Amanda Miller (Director of Education). The following Directors finished their terms this year: Peter Russell (Immediate Past President), Mats Carlbäck (Director of Education), Danny Han (Director of Research). I know that you would like me to thank them for years of meritorious service.

As a volunteer organization, the continuous development of EuroCHRIE is dependent on the contribution of all its members. As we move towards a new academic year, we are planning a range of value-adding activities for our members – but please feel free to approach me with any ideas you might have for your own particular region.

I look forward to working with you all — making a difference for educators in hospitality and tourism in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
