An Update on International CHRIE’s 75th Anniversary Celebration!

We just wanted to take a minute to update you on the planning for our 75^th Anniversary Celebration.

Twenty-one different sub-committees are hard at work planning a very special year of celebration! (There is still plenty of room for more committee members if you would like to participate!) You may have already noticed some things…for example in the September and October Communique, we had some very special articles from our some of our past presidents from as long ago as 1982 and we have only just begun! Thank you to Carol Kizer, Robert Reid, Edward Sherwin, Thomas Bloom, Melvin Barrington and George Alley! Look for more in our November and December issues.

Speaking of “issues”… we have had so many requests to extend the deadline for the JHTR Special issue we have talked to the editors. Being the amazing people that they are, we now have a new deadline of November 24 (yep—Thanksgiving Week!). Mahmood Khan, our Special Issue Guest Editor, tells me that the articles coming in are awesome! Sooo… if you have an interesting topic relevant to our hospitality industry or hospitality education or just a great story about a meaningful experience as a member of ICHRIE we would love to read about it (see the end of this email for the details). I can’t wait to read them all!

Kim Severt, our Director of Convention Services, and I have joined forces and brought our committee’s together to make our 75th Anniversary Conference in DC memorable, international, inclusive, fun, and educational. Great keynote speakers, interactive sessions, and much more. We are also working toward creating experiences for family and friends at the conference and in DC as well. And let’s not forget our students! Internships are being created and we will also have some help from the outstanding students in ESD!

Not many organizations make it to 75. It’s a huge accomplishment. Kim and I, and all of the members of our committees can’t wait to celebrate together!
