Joy was instrumental in setting up the hospitality and tourism management degree programme of the School of Tourism and Hospitality in Strathmore University, and thereafter spearheaded major curriculum revision for integration of subject content with current trends in the industry.
Joy holds a Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a Master’s degree in Home Economics Education from University of the Philippines, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from University of San Carlos, Philippines --- an interesting combination of academic qualifications which shows Joy’s diversity of interest. She is also a trained mentor and holds a professional certificate in Facilities Management. She obtained the international Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) and is recognized as a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) by AHLEI.
Joy has the vision of exerting a positive influence to raise the standards of hospitality and tourism industry through education and training. She is one of the founding members and currently the Vice Chairman of the Tourism Professional Association (TPA) in Kenya.
