Hotel Room Rate Pricing Strategy and Property Owner Types


The objective of the present study is to offer an understanding of the hotel owner type effect on pricing strategies and performance at the property level. The plan is to use property level data to identify common pricing strategies by owner types and quantify the pricing strategies’ impact on the properties’ performance and risk.

About the Authors

Dr. Hugo Tang


Dr. Hugo Tang is an associate professor in White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Purdue University. Tang is interested in the interaction between finance and hospitality operations, especially in applying financial tools to address operational risks such as food commodity price risks and weather induced cash flow volatilities. His research projects generally fall in the area of finance and revenue management.

Dr. Minsun Kim


Dr. Minsun Kim is an Assistant Professor of Management and Marketing in the College of Business at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Dr. Kim’s research interests include strategic management, revenue management, and pricing. Currently, she teaches strategic management and hospitality analytics courses for MBA and undergraduate students with eight years of industry experience.

Dr. Ming Ju


Dr. Ming Ju is an Assistant Professor of Finance at Louisiana Tech University. She received her doctorate degree in Finance from the Fox School of Business, Temple University. Dr. Ju’s research interests include corporate finance and governance. Her papers have been published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Corporate Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and Global Strategy Journal. Currently she teaches corporate finance and international finance courses in the MBA program and for undergraduates.
