It is my pleasure to present the EuroCHRIE 2024 President’s Award to a truly exceptional member of our EuroCHRIE family, Rai Shacklock.
Rai’s dedication and contributions have profoundly shaped our community and the broader field of tourism, hospitality, and events management education.
Rai Shacklock has been a cornerstone of the EuroCHRIE family, serving as our Federation Administrator for over a decade, from 2012 to 2023. Her leadership and vision have also guided us as President of both EuroCHRIE and International-CHRIE.
During the interregnum period between ICHRIE CEOs Kathy McCarty and Fran Brasseaux, Rai was a key player. Working closely with colleagues in the USA, she reshaped the membership structure and associated fees to make membership more inclusive, representative, and affordable for aspiring members in emerging markets.
This transformation helped ICHRIE truly live its values of hospitality, knowledge, participation & collaboration, and inclusiveness. It also aligned perfectly with ICHRIE’s mission to be a global and multi-cultural community dedicated to the pursuit, discovery, advancement, and sharing of knowledge and experiences relevant to the hospitality and tourism industry and its future leaders.
In the United Kingdom, Rai has made a lasting impact as the Head of Department at Leeds Beckett University. Under her stewardship, the university’s tourism, hospitality, and events management courses have thrived, earning a stellar reputation for excellence. Her innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to quality education have inspired countless students and educators.
Rai’s expertise extends beyond academia. As a respected educational consultant, she regularly advises hotel schools and universities around the globe on the validation of new courses, continuous improvement, and establishing global partnerships. Her insights and guidance have been instrumental in fostering international collaboration and enhancing educational standards worldwide.
Rai’s dedication to our field is further demonstrated by her active involvement in various committees and her contributions as a paper reviewer for esteemed journals. Her passion for continuous learning and improvement is evident in every endeavor she undertakes.
Tonight, we celebrate Rai Shacklock not only for her remarkable achievements but also for her unwavering commitment to our EuroCHRIE family. Her legacy of excellence, innovation, and collaboration will continue to inspire us all.
